LCALens

Every emissions figure, traced to the row it came from.

LCALens calculates greenhouse gas emissions with factors you can follow back to the publisher's file, sheet and row. Nothing is estimated silently and nothing enters a result until a person has reviewed it.

How a number is built

  1. Step 1

    Activity data

You enter what happened: 12.5 tonnes of butane burned, 40,000 kWh of electricity used. Units are checked before anything is multiplied.

  2. Step 2

    A reviewed factor

The factor comes from the library only if a reviewer has checked its value, unit, boundary and gas basis against the publisher's file.

  3. Step 3

    The source row

Each factor keeps the sheet, row and identifier it was read from, plus the SHA-256 checksum of the exact file we downloaded.

  4. Step 4

    A locked result

Saved calculations store inputs, factor versions and code version. Locking makes them immutable, so last year's figure never shifts under you.

Seven states, one rule

Only reviewed factors can produce a result you report. The rule is enforced inside the database, so no screen, import or AI tool can skip it.

Emission factor statuses and whether they can be used
StatusMeaningIn a reported result
Verified (source)Checked against an authoritative published source.Used in inventories
Verified (derived)Calculated from verified inputs with a stored, re-runnable equation, then independently reviewed.Used in inventories
User providedYour own supplier or measured factor, private to your organisation, with your evidence.Used, and flagged in reports
Pending reviewImported or proposed, not yet checked.Blocked
AI estimateA provisional engineering estimate with documented assumptions.Blocked until reviewed
RejectedReviewed and found unsuitable. Kept with the reason, for audit.Blocked
DeprecatedSuperseded by a newer release. Locked results keep referencing it.Blocked for new work
